About Us
The Association of Internationally Educated and Trained Professionals (IETPs) of Nova Scotia (IETP-NS) was founded in 2005 as a group of internationally educated professionals who had successfully passed through their licensure pathways, established themselves in their professional communities and had been employed in Nova Scotia. The Association was created as a venue to share the experience and expertise of established IETPs with their newcomer colleagues in order to facilitate their full economic and social integration in Nova Scotia, and to contribute to the development of professional communities in the province and support its knowledge-based economy.
IETP-NS recognizes internationally educated professionals and trades as an increasingly important human asset that positively changes the social fabric of Nova Scotia, enhances Nova Scotia’s national and global competitiveness, and contributes to economic growth and sustainable prosperity of the province.
Canada and Nova Scotia face significant labour shortages now, and these shortages will become more severe in the nearest time. To effectively compete for the talent and skill of highly educated professional and trades people, we must build and promote the capacity of Nova Scotia to give IETPs the professional success and the lifestyle that makes Nova Scotia a place to call home.
IETP-NS contributes to strengthening this capacity of Nova Scotia by building a network of internationally educated and trained persons in the province, providing a voice for IETPs in shaping the public policy agenda, facilitating the change in access to the professions and trades in Nova Scotia; and by generating policy-oriented research, ideas, analysis, formulations and recommendations on foreign credential recognition and labour market attachment of IETPs in Nova Scotia.
The Association of Internationally Educated and Trained Professionals of Nova Scotia closely collaborates with major stakeholders – settlement organizations, professional associations, educational institutions, government agencies in the province and nationally to enhance fair access of internationally educated and trained persons to the labour market in Nova Scotia.
